Sukta 3
नाके सुपर्णमुप यत् पतन्तं हृदा वेनन्तो अभ्यचक्षत त्वा । हिरण्यपक्षं वरुणस्य दूतं यमस्य यो नौ शकुनं भुरण्युम्
nā́ke supárṇam úpa yát pátantaṁ hṛdā́ vénanto abhy àcakṣata tvā́ | híraṇyapakṣaṁ váruṇasya dūtáṁ yámasya yó no śakúnaṁ bhuraṇyúm
When in the heavenly vault they marked thee, the fair-winged, flying near—discerning with the heart—they beheld thee: the golden-winged, Varuṇa’s messenger, Yama’s, who for us art omen-bird, swift-roaming.
வான்மண்டலமான நாகத்தில், அருகே பறந்து செல்லும் அந்த ஸுபர்ணன் (அழகிய இறக்கையுடையவன்) ஆகிய உன்னை—இதயத்தால் உணர்ந்து—அவர்கள் கண்டறிந்து பார்த்தனர். பொன்னிற இறக்கையுடையவன், வருணனின் தூதன், யமனின் (தூதன்)—எங்களுக்கு சகுனப் பறவையாக இருப்பவன், வேகமாகச் சுற்றித் திரிபவன், தூரத் தூரம் அலைபவன்.
