Lord Agni (instructing the sage Vasiṣṭha in the Agni Purana’s usual dialogue frame)

Related Themes: Agni Purana 259 (mantra-homa fruits list)
It prescribes specific homa applications: offering with the mantra-incipit “dadhi krāvṇe” for obtaining offspring, and offering ghee with the mantra-incipit “ghṛtavatī” to promote longevity.
It exemplifies the text’s catalog-like presentation of practical rites—linking particular mantras and substances (curd, ghee) to defined results (progeny, long life), alongside the Purana’s many other domains (ritual, law, medicine, polity, arts).
By aligning mantra-recitation with correct oblation substances, the rite is presented as generating specific punya (merit) and desired outcomes—progeny and longevity—through disciplined sacrificial action (homa-karma).
