FAQs

It gives an abhiṣeka-prayoga: invoking specific divine consorts and Aruṇa (Sun’s charioteer) as consecrating agents to ritually anoint and empower the worshipped recipient (deity/king/initiand) during a formal abhiṣeka.

Beyond mythology, the Agni Purana preserves applied liturgical templates—name-lists and invocatory formulas used in real ceremonies—showing its role as a practical handbook of ritual performance (pujā, abhiṣeka, maṅgala-ācāra).

Abhiṣeka-invocations are meant to confer śuddhi (purification), tejas (spiritual potency), and auspiciousness; ritually calling consecrating powers is understood to remove obstacles and establish sacred authority and protection for the consecrated subject.
