Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Apotropaic japa for pacifying lightning-portents/inauspicious atmospheric omens and stabilizing the practitioner’s mind; includes nyāsa-like mapping (heart), seer/deity/śakti markers for correct ritual deployment.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Vidyutpāta-vidhi Akṣara-japa (Atri–Agni–Indra mapping)","lookup_keywords":["vidyutpāta-vidhi","akṣara-japa","Atri rishi","Indra mantra","left-eye bindu"],"quick_summary":"Recite the specified syllable-set (kha, gha, ja, ña, ṭa) up to 100,000 times as a lightning-omen pacification and mental steadiness practice, with the ritual identifiers: ṛṣi Atri, śakti Agni, devatā Indra, and heart-centered application."}

Concept: Mantra-japa as a means to steadiness of intellect (samatā) and ritual mastery through correct ṛṣi–devatā–śakti–nyāsa alignment.

Application: Maintain count-discipline (lakṣa-japa), keep heart-centered focus, and preserve the traditional mantra-anga identifiers to avoid ritual ‘misapplication’ (viniyoga-bhraṃśa).

Khanda Section: Mantra-vidya & Akshara-japa (Tantric/Protective rites; omens and pacification)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A sādhaka seated in japa posture before a small fire-altar, counting repetitions on a mālā; subtle lightning in the sky; a symbolic bindu marked near the left eye; Indra’s presence implied; heart-center highlighted as the locus of application.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala temple mural style, flat vibrant colors, sādhaka doing japa beside a homa-kuṇḍa, storm clouds with stylized lightning, faint Indra iconography in the background, left-eye bindu detail, heart-lotus motif, traditional ornamentation","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting with gold leaf, central seated sādhaka with mālā, small agni altar, Indra as a haloed yellow deity in the upper register, gold accents on lightning motifs, heart-lotus highlighted with gem-like detailing","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting style, clean linework, instructional composition showing syllable-group (kha gha ja ña ṭa) in a panel, sādhaka japa posture, labeled heart-center (hṛdaya) and left-eye bindu, subdued storm background","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, detailed stormy sky with lightning, ascetic in a pavilion performing japa with rosary, small fire brazier, marginal notes showing syllables, subtle allegorical Indra figure in the clouds"}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: Likely sandhi/spacing issues in the source: ‘सवह्निर्वामाक्षिविन्दुरिन्द्राय’ resolved as ‘सवह्निः वामाक्षि विन्दुः इन्द्राय’. ‘धार्य चेति’ = ‘धार्य च इति’. ‘विद्युत्पातविधाविति’ = ‘विद्युत्पातविधौ इति’.

FAQs

It prescribes an akṣara/bīja-style japa (kha, gha, ja, ña, ṭa) within the vidyutpāta (lightning-portent) ritual, specifying a target count of 100,000 repetitions and assigning ṛṣi (Atri), śakti (Agni), devatā (Indra), and heart-centered application.

Alongside mythology, the Agni Purana catalogs applied ritual technologies—here, omen-handling and śānti practices—complete with mantra-components (ṛṣi/devatā/śakti, japa-count, and locus of application), showing its manual-like coverage of practical religious procedures.

The stated fruit is samatā—mental equilibrium and steadiness—implying pacification of fear and inauspiciousness connected with portents, while heart-directed practice frames it as an inner purification and stabilizing discipline.
