Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Maṇḍapa–Kuṇḍa measurements and paṭa/dvāra proportions","lookup_keywords":["vāstu","maṇḍapa","kuṇḍa-māna","hastamāna","paṭa-dvāra"],"quick_summary":"Ritual architecture is standardized: prescribe kuṇḍa dimensions (4 or 8 cubits) and modular measures for screens and doorways, applicable in domestic and pavilion settings for varied aims."}
Concept: Sacred efficacy is supported by correct form (ākṛti) and measure (māna) of the ritual environment; repeatability ‘from birth to birth’ implies enduring rule-based tradition.
Application: When constructing a homa pavilion at home or in a temple precinct, follow standardized hastamāna modules for safety, flow, and ritual correctness.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: Text contains manuscript markers (ङ/ख/ञ) and variant readings; core sandhi resolved: चाष्टहस्तम् = च + अष्टहस्तम्; कुण्डन्द्वादश = कुण्डम् + द्वादश (म् + द् → न्द्).
Related Themes: Agni Purana 167 (maṇḍapa/kuṇḍa-nirmāṇa context)
It gives vāstu/ritual-specification guidance: standardized size options for the homa fire-pit (kuṇḍa) in cubits (hastas) and related proportional measures for ritual screens (paṭa) and doorways in a maṇḍapa or house setting, tied to specific desired results (putra, rājya, vijaya, bhukti, mukti).
Alongside theology and devotion, the Agni Purana preserves practical technical canons—here, architectural and ritual engineering details (dimensions, proportional sets, site context like house/maṇḍapa), showing it functions as a compendium spanning sacred aims and applied design rules.
By aligning ritual space (maṇḍapa/kuṇḍa/dvāra) with prescribed measures, the rite is believed to become properly 'formed' (sādhaka-friendly), enhancing efficacy for both worldly goals (prosperity, victory) and higher ends (mukti), and generating merit through correct performance.
