इत्य् आदिमहापुराणे आग्नेये प्रतिष्ठायां भूपरिग्रहो नामोनचत्वारिंशोध्यायः अथ चत्वारिंशो ऽध्यायः अर्घ्यदानविधानं भगवानुवाच पूर्वमासित् महद्भूतं सर्वभूतभयङ्करं तद्देवैर् निहितं भुमौ स वास्तुपुरुषः स्मृतः
ity ādimahāpurāṇe āgneye pratiṣṭhāyāṃ bhūparigraho nāmonacatvāriṃśodhyāyaḥ atha catvāriṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ arghyadānavidhānaṃ bhagavānuvāca pūrvamāsit mahadbhūtaṃ sarvabhūtabhayaṅkaraṃ taddevair nihitaṃ bhumau sa vāstupuruṣaḥ smṛtaḥ
இவ்வாறு ஆதிமகாபுராணமான அக்னிபுராணத்தின் பிரதிஷ்டா-பகுதியில் ‘பூ-பரிக்ரஹம்’ எனப்படும் நாற்பதாம் அதிகாரம். இப்போது நாற்பதாம் அதிகாரம்—அர்க்யதான விதி. பகவான் உரைத்தார்—முன்னொரு காலத்தில் எல்லா உயிர்களுக்கும் அச்சமூட்டும் ஒரு மாபெரும் பூதம் இருந்தது; தேவர்கள் அதை பூமியில் படுக்க வைத்தனர்; அதுவே ‘வாஸ்து-புருஷன்’ என நினைவுகூரப்படுகிறது.
