Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Provides a classification key for interpreting Purāṇic creation narratives: distinguishing evolute (vaikṛta) from primordial (prākṛta) and recognizing anugraha-sarga as a grace-mediated ordering of beings by guṇa.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Anugraha Sarga and the Vaikṛta–Prākṛta Division","lookup_keywords":["anugraha-sarga","sāttvika","tāmasa","vaikṛta-sarga","prākṛta-sarga"],"quick_summary":"States the 8th creation as anugraha, twofold (sāttvika/tāmasa), and summarizes the overall grouping: five creations are vaikṛta (modified) and three are prākṛta (primordial)."}
Concept: Guṇa-based differentiation (sattva/tamas) within anugraha-sarga and the metaphysical split between prakṛti-origin (prākṛta) and transformation-origin (vaikṛta).
Application: Use guṇa-analysis to interpret tendencies in beings and to frame ethical cultivation: increase sattva (clarity) and reduce tamas (inertia) as ‘anugraha’ in lived practice.

It imparts cosmological taxonomy (sarga-bheda): distinguishing prākṛta (primordial) and vaikṛta (evolute) creations, and identifying anugraha-sarga as sāttvika and tāmasa—key technical categories used in Purāṇic/Sāṃkhya-style creation theory.
By systematizing creation into numbered types (sargas) and mapping them to guṇa-based qualities (sāttvika/tāmasa), it shows the text’s encyclopedic method: summarizing philosophical cosmology alongside other disciplines elsewhere in the Purāṇa.
Understanding creation as guṇa-conditioned (sattva/tamas) supports discernment (viveka): it encourages cultivating sattva and reducing tamas, aligning one’s conduct with clarity and spiritual upliftment rather than delusion.
