पार्थिवः पञ्चमात्रस्तु चतुर्मात्राणि वारुणः । आग्नेयस्तु त्रिमात्रोऽसौ वायव्यस्तु द्विमात्रकः ॥३१॥

पार्थिवः । पञ्च-मात्रः । तु । चतुर्मात्राणि । वारुणः । आग्नेयः । तु । त्रि-मात्रः । असौ । वायव्यः । तु । द्वि-मात्रकः ॥

IAST Transliteration

pārthivaḥ pañcamātras tu caturmātrāṇi vāruṇaḥ | āgneyas tu trimātro'sau vāyavyas tu dvimātrakaḥ ||31||

Translation

पार्थिवतत्त्वं पञ्चमात्रात्मकं; वारुणतत्त्वं चतुर्मात्रात्मकम्। आग्नेयतत्त्वं त्रिमात्रात्मकं; वायव्यतत्त्वं द्विमात्रात्मकं भवति॥

Academic Translation

The earthy (principle) is of five mātrās; the watery (principle) is of four mātrās. The fiery (principle) is of three mātrās; that airy (principle) is of two mātrās.
