Suta Goswami (narrating the Purana to the sages, describing events in Menā’s household)
Tattva Level: pashu
Offering: naivedya
It shows how outer offerings (jewels, gold vessels) become spiritually meaningful when they arise from prīti—joyful devotion—and recognition of auspicious grace; in Shaiva thought, such dāna expresses reverence to the divine order (Śiva as Pati) and supports dharmic harmony.
Though the verse is about gifting, its mood is Saguna-bhakti: honoring the Lord through tangible, respectful offerings. In Linga worship too, devotees offer substances and gifts with devotion, acknowledging Śiva’s manifested compassion and auspicious presence.
The takeaway is devotional dāna done with purity and gladness; practically, one may pair offerings with Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple Śiva-pūjā, dedicating the act as service rather than display.
