सुन्दरकाण्डे अष्टपञ्चाशः सर्गः
हनुमद्वृत्तान्तकथनम्, सीताभिज्ञान-प्रदानम्, लङ्कादाह-वर्णनम्
ततस्सा ह्रीमती बाला भर्तुर्विजयहर्षिता।।।।अवोचद्यदि तत्तथ्यं भवेयं शरणं हि वः।
tatas sā hrīmatī bālā bhartur vijaya-harṣitā | avocad yadi tat tathyaṁ bhaveyaṁ śaraṇaṁ hi vaḥ ||
ततः सा ह्रीमती बाला भर्तुर्विजयेन हर्षिता अवोचत्—यदि तत् तथ्यम्, अहं वः शरणं भविष्यामि॥
'On hearing the words (of Trijata) that 'Rama will succeed', young and bashful Sita felt happy and said that 'If it comes true I will protect thee'.
The dharma of compassion: even the wronged can choose forgiveness and offer protection when truth prevails and repentance is shown.
Encouraged by Trijaṭā’s words about Rāma’s victory, Sītā promises refuge to the rākṣasīs if the prediction comes true.
Kṣamā (forbearance/forgiveness) and magnanimity despite personal suffering.
