वित्रस्तां परमोद्विग्नां वीक्षमाणां ततस्ततः।त्राणं किञ्चिदपश्यन्तीं वेपमानां तपस्विनीम्।।5.58.66।।तामुवाच दशग्रीवस्सीतां परमदुःखिताम्।अवाक्चिराः प्रपतितो बहुमन्यस्व मामिति।।5.58.67।।
vitrastāṃ paramodvignāṃ vīkṣamāṇāṃ tatastataḥ |
trāṇaṃ kiñcid apaśyantīṃ vepamānāṃ tapasvinīm || 5.58.66 ||
tām uvāca daśagrīvaḥ sītāṃ paramaduḥkhitām |
avākcirāḥ prapatito bahumanyasva mām iti || 5.58.67 ||
(दक्षिणपाठे पुनरुक्तिः) वित्रस्तां परमोद्विग्नां दिशो दिशः वीक्षमाणां, त्राणं किञ्चिदपश्यन्तीं, वेपमानां तपस्विनीं सीतां दशग्रीवः अवाक्शिराः प्रपतितः सन् उवाच— ‘मां बहुमन्यस्व, मयि विश्वासं कुरु’ इति॥
"Sita was full of fear and worry, looked here and there without any protector to pacify. She was trembling in fear. To that Sita, the tenheaded Ravana bent his head down and said, 'trust me and respect me'.
It highlights discernment: dharma is not validated by outward gestures (like bowing) when the underlying act—abduction and intimidation—is adharma.
