Viṣṇu

Concept: Right instruction (upadeśa) under a dharmic king can awaken Vaishnava identity; hearing sacred history (caritra) is itself a bhakti practice.

Application: Regularly hear/recite Vishnu-kathā (Purāṇa reading, kīrtana, japa) and share it gently—teaching by example as much as by words.

Primary Rasa: vira

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: celestial_realm

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Viṣṇu appears in a luminous revelation, addressing a mighty king seated respectfully with folded hands. The air shimmers with śaṅkha-cakra symbols; behind them, the earth-kingdom is shown as a harmonious panorama, indicating that Vaishnava dharma has taken root among the people.","primary_figures":["Viṣṇu (speaker)","Royal listener (nṛpaśārdūla)","Attendant sages/courtiers"],"setting":"A royal audience hall that subtly transforms into a divine space—pillars and lamps below, a Vaikuṇṭha-like radiance above.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["Vishnu blue","molten gold","white jasmine","ruby red","emerald"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Vishnu standing or seated on a lotus pedestal in a royal sabhā, addressing a king with folded hands, heavy gold leaf on Vishnu’s crown, halo, śaṅkha-cakra motifs, rich reds/greens, gem-studded ornaments, ornate arch framing and symmetrical composition.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: Vishnu’s gentle yet commanding presence in a refined court scene, delicate brushwork, cool blues and soft golds, the king in humble posture, subtle celestial glow, architectural details rendered with fine lines and lyrical restraint.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, Vishnu with characteristic large eyes and elaborate crown, king seated below, stylized pillars and lamps, strong red/yellow/green palette with blue Vishnu body tone, mural narrative clarity.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: Vishnu-centered composition with lotus motifs and ornate floral borders, deep blue ground with gold highlights, śaṅkha-cakra patterns repeated like textile stamps, attendants and peacocks at the margins, devotional symmetry."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"dramatic","suggested_raga":"Desh","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["conch shell","temple bells","deep drone (tanpura)","court hush","sudden silence at ‘śrūyatām’"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: तेनोपदिष्टास्ते = तेन + उपदिष्टाः + ते; विष्णुरुवाच = विष्णुः + उवाच

FAQs

It states that people became Vaiṣṇavas due to a king’s instruction, and then Viṣṇu introduces the forthcoming narration of that king’s deeds.

The explicit speaker is Viṣṇu (“viṣṇur uvāca”), addressing a listener praised as “nṛpaśārdūla” (a foremost king).

The verse highlights the influence of righteous leadership: a king’s guidance can shape the religious and moral orientation of society toward devotion (bhakti) and Vaiṣṇava dharma.
