Unspecified narrator-speaker addressing a brāhmaṇa (vipra) in dialogue

Concept: Truth is best transmitted through satkāra (honoring the guest) and a calm, sacred setting; good vows (suvrata) qualify one to receive teaching.

Application: Create a ‘cool shade’ in daily life—offer time, attention, and respect before giving advice; listen seated, unhurried, and with purity of intent.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: forest

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A sacred seat of kuśa and woven grass is placed beneath a broad tree canopy, where cool shade pools like a blessing. The host gestures invitingly while the vipra, travel-worn yet radiant with vows, prepares to sit—an atmosphere of trust before a long teaching unfolds.","primary_figures":["host/narrator-speaker (sage-like)","vipra (brāhmaṇa listener)"],"setting":"hermitage courtyard with a simple āsana, earthen water pot, and hanging garlands; a shaded grove with filtered light","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["cool jade","smoke gray","ivory","marigold orange","soft bronze"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: welcoming scene under a stylized tree, gold leaf accents on the sacred āsana and subtle haloing; rich reds/greens in borders, ornate lotus motifs; the vipra seated with calm dignity, the host offering gesture of satkāra; intricate textile patterns and traditional iconographic symmetry.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: tranquil hermitage with delicate foliage, a shaded nook, and refined figures; soft cool palette, lyrical naturalism; the āsana rendered with fine patterning, gentle expressions emphasizing peace and hospitality.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, warm earth pigments; large tree canopy forming a protective arch; host’s welcoming mudrā, vipra seated; decorative border reminiscent of temple murals, emphasizing serenity.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: courtyard framed by floral borders and lotus vines; small hanging lamps and garlands; peacocks at the edge; devotional calm with intricate patterns and deep blue-green ground, gold highlights on sacred objects."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"reverent-soft","sound_elements":["gentle breeze","leaf rustle","water pot trickle","soft bell","long pauses for calm"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: छायामाश्रयशीतलाम् = छायाम् + आश्रय + शीतलाम्; उपविश्यासने = उपविश्य + आसने.

FAQs

The verse highlights dharma through respectful hospitality—welcoming a learned guest, offering a sacred seat, and providing comfort (cool shade) before discourse.

It signals a formal instructional setting: the teacher first honors the listener, then promises a complete explanation, establishing trust and readiness for transmission of knowledge.

Before instruction or debate, one should practice humility and care—honor the guest, ensure their comfort, and then proceed with truthful, complete teaching.
