The Narrative of the Pativrata
तन्मया पापया पापं कृतं वै पूर्वजन्मनि । तद्भजंत्या न मे दुःखं न विषादः कथंचन ॥ ७२ ॥
tanmayā pāpayā pāpaṃ kṛtaṃ vai pūrvajanmani | tadbhajaṃtyā na me duḥkhaṃ na viṣādaḥ kathaṃcana || 72 ||
तन्मया पापया पूर्वजन्मनि वै पापं कृतम्। तं भजन्त्या मम दुःखं न विषादः कदाचन॥
A devotee/narrative voice within the Adhyaya (as quoted in the Uttara-Bhaga discourse)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches that even if one has committed sin in a previous birth, sincere bhajana of the Supreme (Vishnu) dissolves inner grief and despair, indicating purification of karma and stabilization of mind through devotion.
Bhakti is shown as a direct inner refuge: the devotee acknowledges past wrongdoing without denial, yet remains free from duḥkha and viṣāda because continuous worship (bhajana) anchors consciousness in the Lord rather than in guilt or fear.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, or Kalpa) is taught in this line; the practical takeaway is ethical self-assessment and steady devotional discipline as the applied method for pāpa-kṣaya (diminution of sin).
