Even within righteous warfare, one must not become indifferent to suffering. Kṛṣṇa’s immediate attention to the wounded horses highlights compassionate responsibility and practical guardianship—protecting dependents and minimizing harm wherever possible.
As the battle intensifies and the chariot’s horses are pierced by heron-feathered arrows, Kṛṣṇa (Vāsudeva) quickly gets down from the chariot and releases/unfastens the injured horses, acting to safeguard them and manage the crisis on the battlefield.
