О царь, то место почитаемо и другими носителями бремени земли, во главе с Айраваной. Кто совершит там омовение должным образом, обретёт заслугу, равную дарованию слона.
Pulastya (continued narration)
Tirtha: Gajatīrtha
Type: ghat
Listener: Nṛpa (king)
Scene: At Gajatīrtha’s steps, a pilgrim bathes while celestial Airāvaṇa and other mighty elephants appear in reverent attendance, suggesting the dāna-equivalent merit radiating from the waters.
A tīrtha can confer great merit through simple, sincere rites—sometimes equated with major acts of charity.
Gajatīrtha (context of the chapter), associated with Airāvaṇa and other great elephants.
Snāna (bathing) performed samyak (properly) at the tīrtha; the stated fruit equals gajadāna (elephant-gift).
