Но тот, кто во время солнечного затмения омоется там и затем, по предписанию, подаст милостыню — слонов, коней, колесницы, драгоценности и прочее, дома и коров, годных к ярму, — стяжает безмерную заслугу.
Mārkaṇḍeya
Tirtha: Revā-tīrtha (Narmadā)
Type: kshetra
Listener: māhīpati (king)
Scene: A riverbank tīrtha on Revā during a solar eclipse: pilgrims immersed in the river, priests guiding saṅkalpa; donors offering cows, gold, and symbolic gifts; the eclipsed sun dimming the sky.
Auspicious timing intensifies dharma: eclipse-bathing and rule-based charity at a tīrtha are portrayed as exceptionally merit-producing.
The practice is taught in the Puṣkariṇī tīrtha context of the Revākhaṇḍa.
During a solar eclipse: perform snāna (ritual bath) and then give dāna as prescribed—such as cows, houses, vehicles/animals, and valuables.
