FAQs

This verse is primarily an āchāra (ethical-discipline) injunction rather than a direct ātma-tattva statement; it supports Self-realization indirectly by prescribing purity, restraint, and responsibility—foundational virtues for yoga and higher knowledge.

It emphasizes preparatory discipline (yama-like restraints): modesty, cleanliness, and reverence for sacred symbols like fire. Such conduct stabilizes the mind and supports sādhana that later culminates in yoga and contemplative practice.

It does not explicitly mention Śiva or Viṣṇu; instead, it reflects the Purāṇic synthesis by upholding universal dharma—purity and reverence (e.g., toward Agni)—as a shared foundation for both Śaiva and Vaiṣṇava spiritual paths.
