FAQs

This verse imparts vamśa-vidyā (dynastic knowledge): a precise genealogical linkage used for Purāṇic historiography and lineage-based identification of kings and clans.

By preserving structured royal genealogies alongside other disciplines, the Agni Purana functions as a reference compendium—cataloging lineages that connect narratives, regional traditions, and dharma-accounts across Purāṇic literature.

Remembering and reciting righteous lineages is traditionally treated as smṛti-based purification and dharma reinforcement, strengthening reverence for ancestral order (pitṛ-paramparā) and the continuity of sacred history.
