Maitreya’s Questions and Parāśara’s Resolve to Teach
Sage Parāśara (in instruction to Maitreya)
This verse treats anger as a primary inner obstacle that blocks both worldly merit (svarga) and ultimate freedom (apavarga), so it must be consciously renounced.
Here, Parāśara frames liberation as dependent on inner discipline—specifically, not becoming controlled by anger, as the great sages model constant restraint.
Even when Vishnu is not named, the Purana’s Vaishnava framework implies that self-mastery and dharma purify the seeker for devotion and realization oriented toward the Supreme Reality upheld by Vishnu.
