bibhetyalpaśrutādvedo māmayaṃ pratariṣyati | itihāsapurāṇaiśca kṛto'yaṃ niścayaḥ purā
O Veda receia aquele que ouviu apenas um pouco, pensando: «Este me deturpará e me ultrapassará». Por isso, desde tempos antigos, por meio de Itihāsa e Purāṇa firmou-se esta conclusão: o Veda deve ser abordado com o amparo das narrativas sagradas e da tradição.
Sūta (Lomaharṣaṇa) narrating to the sages (deduced for Purāṇa-introductory discourse)
Tirtha: Revā (Narmadā) kathā-frame
Type: river
Scene: Personified Veda as a radiant elder withdrawing slightly from a proud, half-taught student, while sages present Itihāsa and Purāṇa scrolls as supportive guides; the student bows, humility restored.
True Vedic understanding matures through the guiding narratives of Itihāsa and Purāṇa, preventing shallow or distorted readings.
This verse is part of a doctrinal prologue in the Revā Khaṇḍa and does not yet praise a specific tīrtha by name.
No explicit ritual is prescribed; the instruction is methodological—study the Veda in the light of Itihāsa-Purāṇa.
