The Account of Creation Beginning with Śakti
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Cosmic Event: guṇa-sāmya (pre-manifest equilibrium) described as mutual interpenetration
It points to the guṇas as bound in mutual intermixture and equilibrium—part of the pasha (bondage) that veils the soul—implying that liberation comes by Shiva’s grace and yogic discernment that transcends all guṇas.
Linga-worship centers the mind on Pati (Shiva), the Lord beyond guṇas; devotion to Saguna Shiva stabilizes the seeker, and through that steadiness one recognizes that sattva and tamas are interwoven forces of prakṛti, not the Self.
Practice steady japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with dhyāna on Shiva as guṇātīta (beyond the guṇas), supporting inner purity with Tripuṇḍra-bhasma and a disciplined yogic routine to prevent agitation of the mind.
