Praise of the Gift of the Cosmic Egg and Description of the Brahmāṇḍa’s Measure
सनत्कुमार उवाच । मुने शृणु प्रवक्ष्यामि यदुत्सेधं तु विस्तरम् । ब्रह्माण्डं तत्तु संक्षेपाच्छ्रुत्वा पापात्प्रमुच्यते
sanatkumāra uvāca | mune śṛṇu pravakṣyāmi yadutsedhaṃ tu vistaram | brahmāṇḍaṃ tattu saṃkṣepācchrutvā pāpātpramucyate
Sanatkumāra disse: Ó sábio, escuta; explicarei a medida e a vasta extensão do Brahmāṇḍa, o Ovo Cósmico. Ao ouvir este relato, ainda que em resumo, a pessoa se liberta do pecado.
Sanatkumara
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Significance: Śravaṇa (hearing) of Śaiva cosmological teaching is framed as pāpa-kṣaya (sin-destruction) and purification of the paśu, preparing eligibility for higher upadeśa.
Role: teaching
It teaches that śravaṇa (devotional hearing) of sacred Shiva-Purana knowledge—here, the Brahmāṇḍa’s vast order—purifies the mind and removes pāpa, preparing the seeker for Shiva-oriented liberation (moksha) under Pati’s grace.
By framing the universe (Brahmāṇḍa) as a knowable sacred order, the text supports Saguna worship: the devotee contemplates Shiva as the Lord who pervades and transcends the cosmos, often approached through Linga-upāsanā with reverent listening to Purāṇic teachings.
The implied practice is Purāṇa-śravaṇa (listening/recitation) as a purificatory sādhana—ideally done with devotion to Shiva, optionally alongside japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and simple observances like cleanliness and reverent attention.
