Praise of the Gift of the Cosmic Egg and Description of the Brahmāṇḍa’s Measure
vyāsa uvāca | bhagavanbrūhi brāhmāṇḍaṃ yatpramāṇaṃ yadātmakam | yadādhāraṃ yathābhūtaṃ yena me pratyayo bhavet
Vyasa
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It frames spiritual inquiry as the foundation of liberation: Vyāsa seeks “yathābhūta” (reality as it is), implying that right knowledge dispels bondage (pāśa) and turns the mind toward the Supreme Lord (Pati) as the ultimate ground of the cosmos.
By asking for the universe’s true “ādhāra” (support), the verse points toward Shiva as the underlying reality; in practice, devotees approach this highest truth through Saguna Shiva and the Linga as a concrete focus for contemplation on the cosmic source.
The takeaway is śravaṇa and nididhyāsana—listening to Shaiva teachings and meditating on their meaning; pairing this with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” helps stabilize pratyaya (inner certainty) about Shiva as the ground of all.
