Bāṇāsura Receives Gaṇapatya; Genealogical Prelude
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Yuddhakhaṇḍa account to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It underscores how worldly circumstances—even those sanctioned by “the gods” in a narrative frame—can bind beings to karmic consequences; Shaiva Siddhanta emphasizes taking refuge in Shiva (Pati) through dharma and inner purity rather than trusting mere fate or social designation.
In Shaiva reading, such disturbing turns in worldly life highlight the insufficiency of external status and the need for surrender to Saguna Shiva through Linga-worship, seeking protection, clarity, and right action amid conflict and moral ambiguity.
The verse mentions upavāsa (vrata), pointing to disciplined observance; a Shaiva takeaway is to combine vrata with Panchākṣarī japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") and Tripuṇḍra/bhasma remembrance for steadiness and discernment.
