Narration of Kārttikeya’s Divine Play
इति स्वचरितं ख्यातं मया ते वरबालक । कस्त्वं स्वचरितं ब्रूहि विस्मितायाखिलं हि मे
iti svacaritaṃ khyātaṃ mayā te varabālaka | kastvaṃ svacaritaṃ brūhi vismitāyākhilaṃ hi me
Assim, ó excelente menino, eu te narrei a minha própria história. Agora, quem és tu? Conta-me por inteiro o teu relato, pois estou totalmente maravilhado.

Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
The verse highlights the Shaiva principle that sacred narration (kathā) awakens wonder and receptivity; the listener’s astonishment becomes a doorway to deeper revelation about the divine and the soul’s path under Pati (Shiva).
Though not naming the Liṅga directly, it sets the narrative method by which Saguna Shiva’s manifestations and deeds are revealed; such hearing (śravaṇa) is a core bhakti approach that culminates in understanding Shiva as both manifest (saguṇa) and transcendent (nirguṇa).
A practical takeaway is śravaṇa and manana: listen to Shiva Purana with focused attention and reflect on it; one may support this with japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” before or after recitation.
