Padma Purana — Bhumi Khanda, Shloka 23

Entering Kāmodā and the Doctrine of Dreams, Sleep, and the Self

Concept: Creation-connection is likened to play (krīḍā-vihāra) and to waves that arise and dissolve on water—phenomena are transient modifications.

Application: Treat life’s fluctuations as wave-forms—respond without panic; cultivate remembrance of the stable substratum through bhakti and discernment.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A vast ocean fills the frame, each wave painted as a delicate, repeating pattern—rising, curling, and dissolving back into the same luminous water. Above the horizon, a subtle celestial mandala suggests ‘creation-connection’ as divine sport, with faint silhouettes of worlds appearing like foam.","primary_figures":["symbolic ocean (āpah)","celestial artisans or devas (subtle)","Vishnu as the unseen regulator (suggested by śaṅkha-cakra motifs in the sky)"],"setting":"Mythic seascape merging into a cosmic horizon; no fixed land, emphasizing flux.","lighting_mood":"moonlit with divine radiance on wave crests","color_palette":["pearl white","midnight blue","sea-green","silver","pale lavender"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: a stylized ocean with rhythmic wave motifs, silver-gold highlights on crests; above, a small Vishnu emblematic presence (śaṅkha-cakra-padma) within a gold-leaf mandala; rich borders, jewel-like foam patterns, devotional symbolism of līlā.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: lyrical ocean under a cool moon; fine brushwork for wavelets; faint cosmic forms in the sky like translucent bubbles; restrained palette, poetic emptiness, delicate gradations.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlined waves in repeating curves; a circular sky-mandala indicating sṛṣṭi-sambandha; strong reds/yellows/greens used symbolically with deep blue sea; temple-wall composition.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: ornate repeating wave patterns like floral motifs; border of lotuses and conch-shell designs; central circular medallion showing the wave arising and dissolving; deep blue ground with gold and white detailing."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["ocean surf","soft drone (tanpura)","distant conch shell","wind over water"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: क्रीडाविहारोयं = क्रीडा-विहारः + अयम्. सृष्टिसंबंधकारणम् = सृष्टि-संबन्ध-कारणम्. तरंगस्तु = तरङ्गः + तु.

FAQs

It illustrates how forms arise and subside while the underlying reality remains continuous—like waves appearing and disappearing without becoming separate from water.

Creation is presented as “krīḍā-vihāra” (divine play), implying a spontaneous, effortless manifestation rather than a strained or need-driven act.

It encourages detachment and steadiness: experiences and identities are transient like waves, so one should not cling to them as permanent.
