एष विग्रहवान् धर्म एष वीर्यवर्तां वर: । एष बुद्धपबाधिको लोके तपसां च परायणम्
eṣa vigrahavān dharma eṣa vīryavartāṁ varaḥ | eṣa buddhapabādhiko loke tapasāṁ ca parāyaṇam ||
Arjuna disse: “Aqui está o Dharma encarnado; aqui está o primeiro entre os valentes. Neste mundo ele é o mais elevado em discernimento e o refúgio supremo dos ascetas e da austeridade.”
अर्जुन उवाच
True greatness unites embodied dharma (moral integrity) with vīrya (courage) and buddhi (discernment), and becomes a refuge for those devoted to tapas—suggesting that power is ethically legitimate only when grounded in righteousness and wisdom.
Arjuna is praising a figure before him as the very embodiment of Dharma—declaring him the best among the brave and the foremost in wisdom, worthy of reverence as the support and ideal of ascetic discipline.
