अध्याय ९० — लोमशोपदेशः तथा तीर्थयात्रानिश्चयः
Lomaśa’s Counsel and the Resolve for Pilgrimage
पुण्यं चाख्यायते दिव्यं शिवमग्निशिरोडनघ । सहदेवो5यजद् यत्र शम्याक्षेपेण भारत,उधर ही अग्निशिर नामक दिव्य, कल्याणमय, पुण्यतीर्थ बताया जाता है। निष्पाप भरतनन्दन! उसी तीर्थमें सहदेवने शमीका डंडा फेंकवाकर, जितनी दूरीमें वह डंडा पड़ा था उतनी दूरीमें, मण्डप बनवाकर उसमें यज्ञ किया
puṇyaṃ cākhyāyate divyaṃ śivam agniśiro 'nagha | sahadevo 'yajad yatra śamyākṣepena bhārata ||
Dhaumya disse: “Ó tu, sem pecado, este lugar chamado Agniśiras é proclamado um vau sagrado — divino, auspicioso e purificador. Ó descendente de Bharata, foi aqui que Sahadeva realizou um sacrifício, demarcando o recinto ritual ao lançar um bastão de madeira de śamī e mandando erguer o pavilhão sacrificial na medida da distância onde ele caiu.”
धौम्य उवाच
Sacred geography (tīrthas) and correctly performed ritual action are presented as means of purification and the maintenance of dharma; auspicious places and proper boundaries for rites matter because they embody order, restraint, and reverence.
Dhaumya identifies Agniśiras as a renowned holy tīrtha and recalls that Sahadeva once performed a yajña there, determining the extent of the ritual space by casting a śamī-wood staff and setting up the sacrificial pavilion according to where it landed.
