Nahūṣa-Ājagara Saṃvāda: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Definition of Brāhmaṇa and the ‘Vedyam’ Debate

Educational Q&A

Even when granted access to extraordinary prosperity by divine favor, the Pāṇḍavas do not fall into craving for others’ pleasures. The passage highlights contentment and restraint (non-covetousness) as marks of dharmic character, making hardship (exile) feel light and time pass peacefully.

Vaiśampāyana tells Janamejaya that the Pāṇḍavas, through Kubera’s grace, obtained a place to stay and lived there without desiring worldly luxuries. They remained with Arjuna for four years, which felt like a single night, completing ten years of their forest-exile (six earlier years plus four there) in an auspicious and happy manner.
