प्रज्ञया मानसं दु:खं हन्याच्छारीरमौषधै: । एतद् विज्ञानसामर्थ्य न बालै: समतामियात्
prajñayā mānasaṃ duḥkhaṃ hanyāc chārīram auṣadhaiḥ | etad vijñāna-sāmarthyaṃ na bālaiḥ samatām iyāt ||
Disse Nārada: “Com discernimento, deve-se abater a tristeza que surge na mente; com medicamentos, deve-se curar as aflições do corpo. Tal é o poder do verdadeiro entendimento—crianças e imaturos não o alcançam.”
नारद उवाच
Mental suffering is best remedied through prajñā (discernment and right understanding), while physical ailments are treated through medicines; the verse elevates inner knowledge as a distinctive power not reached by the immature.
Nārada is instructing the listener in Shānti Parva on practical and ethical self-governance, distinguishing the appropriate means for curing mental distress versus bodily disease and praising the maturity of true knowledge.
