The Crow-and-Swan Exemplum as Counsel to Karṇa
नवभिर्निशितैर्भल्लै्निजघान युधिष्ठिरम् । प्रजानाथ! उस शक्तिको नष्ट हुई देख आपके पुत्रने नौ तीखे भल्लोंसे युधिष्ठिरको गहरी चोट पहुँचायी ।।
sañjaya uvāca |
navabhir niśitaiḥ bhallaiḥ nijaghāna yudhiṣṭhiram |
so 'tividdho balavatā śatruṇā śatrutāpanaḥ |
balī yudhiṣṭhiro duryodhanaṃ lakṣyaṃ kṛtvā ekaṃ bāṇaṃ pāṇau jagrāha taṃ ca dhanur madhyabhāge nyadhāt ||
Disse Sañjaya: Com nove flechas bhalla, agudas e cortantes, ele atingiu Yudhiṣṭhira. Embora gravemente trespassado por um inimigo poderoso, Yudhiṣṭhira—flagelo dos adversários—fixou a mira em Duryodhana, tomou uma única flecha na mão e a assentou no meio do arco, pronto para responder à injúria com firmeza disciplinada, e não com queda.
संजय उवाच
Even when grievously harmed, a dharmic warrior is expected to maintain steadiness and purposeful action. The verse highlights endurance and disciplined response—pain does not excuse loss of resolve or clarity of aim.
Duryodhana strikes Yudhiṣṭhira with nine sharp bhalla-arrows. Despite being badly wounded, Yudhiṣṭhira gathers himself, aims at Duryodhana, and sets an arrow on his bow to retaliate.
