Night Exhaustion and Brief Pause in Battle
The verse underscores kṣatriya-dharma in its starkest form: steadfastness at the battlefront and the capacity to act decisively even while oneself is afflicted. It also hints at the ethical tension of war—heroism is intertwined with causing injury, and endurance becomes a moral test within the epic’s tragic setting.
Sañjaya describes a moment in the Drona Parva battle where Bāhnīka, bearing down on a great warrior at the front line, wounds him with nine arrows. The narration situates this action amid the broader fighting involving Bhīma and Sātyaki.
