Pitṛ-śrāddha-haviḥ-phala-nirdeśa
Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
शेषा: प्रजानां पतय: स्रोतोभ्यस्तस्य जज्ञिरे । ऋषयो रोमकूपेभ्य: स्वेदाच्छन्दो बलान्मन:
śeṣāḥ prajānāṁ patayaḥ srotobhyaḥ tasya jajñire | ṛṣayo romakūpebhyaḥ svedāc chando balān manaḥ ||
Vasiṣṭha disse: “Os demais senhores das criaturas nasceram dos canais do seu corpo (as correntes dos sentidos). Dos poros de seus pelos surgiram os rishis; do seu suor surgiram os metros védicos (chandas); e de sua potência vital surgiu a mente (manas).”
वसिष्ठ उवाच
That the constituents of spiritual authority—sages (ṛṣis), sacred metres (chandas), and mind (manas)—are portrayed as arising from the cosmic source, underscoring their sanctity and the ethical duty to align thought and speech with dharma.
Vasiṣṭha is describing a cosmogonic genealogy: various classes of beings and principles are said to originate from different aspects of a primordial being—channels, hair-pores, sweat, and vital potency—mapping the world’s order onto the body of the cosmic source.
