दुर्वग्भावं रतिं चैव ददौ स्त्रीभ्य: प्रजापति: । स्त्रियोंके लिये किन्‍्हीं वैदिक कर्मोंके करनेका विधान नहीं है। यही धर्मशास्त्रकी व्यवस्था है। स्त्रियाँ इन्द्रियशून्य हैं अर्थात्‌ वे अपनी इन्द्रियोंको वशमें रखनेमें असमर्थ हैं। शास्त्रज्ञाससे रहित हैं और असत्यकी मूर्ति हैं। ऐसा उनके विषयमें श्रुतिका कथन है। प्रजापतिने स्त्रियोंको शय्या

bhīṣma uvāca | durvagbhāvaṁ ratiṁ caiva dadau strībhyaḥ prajāpatiḥ |

Disse Bhishma: Prajāpati concedeu às mulheres a aspereza da fala e o desejo sexual. Nesta passagem, o discurso coloca as mulheres fora do âmbito da obrigação ritual védica e as retrata como carentes de autocontrole e de investigação das escrituras—alegações apresentadas como “o que diz a śruti”.
