Discerning Dharma in Accord with Time

The verse teaches that mastery over the senses and unwavering commitment to good conduct—especially refraining from desire toward another man’s wife, even at the level of the gaze—constitute dharma and lead to heavenly merit.
In Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction-focused discourse, Śrī Maheśvara speaks a moral maxim: he praises men of disciplined senses and virtuous character, stating that such restraint results in attaining Svarga.
