Householder Duties and Daily Offerings
एवं कृत्वा बलिं सम्यग दद्याद् भिक्षां द्विजाय वै | अलाभे ब्राह्मणस्याग्नावग्रमुद्धृत्य निक्षिपेत्
evaṁ kṛtvā baliṁ samyag dadyād bhikṣāṁ dvijāya vai | alābhe brāhmaṇasyāgnāv agram uddhṛtya nikṣipet ||
Tendo assim preparado e oferecido corretamente o bali (a porção ritual), deve-se então dar esmola a um duas-vezes-nascido (um brâmane). Se não houver brâmane para recebê-la, tome-se a porção principal e deposite-se no fogo sagrado—para que o ato de dar não seja abandonado, mas cumprido por um substituto conforme ao dharma.
