।। तयोरण्डानि निदधुः प्रहष्टाः: परिचारिका:,अण्डाभ्यां विनतायास्तु मिथुन न व्यदृश्यत । दासियोंने अत्यन्त प्रसन्न होकर दोनोंके अण्डोंको गरम बर्तनोंमें रख दिया। वे अण्डे पाँच सौ वर्षोतक उन्हीं बर्तनोंमें पड़े रहे। तत्पश्चात् पाँच सौ वर्ष पूरे होनेपर कद्भूके एक हजार पुत्र अण्डोंको फोड़कर बाहर निकल आये; परंतु विनताके अण्डोंसे उसके दो बच्चे निकलते नहीं दिखायी दिये
tayor aṇḍāni nidadhuḥ praharṣṭāḥ paricārikāḥ | aṇḍābhyāṃ vinatāyās tu mithunaṃ na vyadṛśyata ||
Disse Śaunaka: Contentes, as servas colocaram os dois ovos em recipientes aquecidos. Contudo, dos ovos de Vinatā não se viu surgir qualquer par de descendentes. (No enredo ao redor, os ovos são guardados por muito tempo; os mil filhos de Kadrū eclodem, enquanto os de Vinatā não aparecem.)

Attendants carefully place the eggs in warm vessels. Yet Vinatā’s two offspring do not appear at the expected time, in contrast to Kadru’s brood elsewhere in the story—an imbalance that fuels Vinatā’s anxiety and foreshadows later events involving her sons.
