मन्दर-समुद्रमन्थन-वर्णनम् / Description of the Churning of the Ocean with Mount Mandara
ते भारयें वरसंतुष्टे कश्यपो वनमाविशत् । समान तेजस्वी एक हजार पुत्र होनेका वर पाकर कद्भू भी अपना मनोरथ सिद्ध हुआ समझने लगी। वरदान पाकर संतुष्ट हुई अपनी उन धर्मपत्नियोंसे यह कहकर कि “तुम दोनों यत्नपूर्वक अपने-अपने गर्भकी रक्षा करना” महातपस्वी कश्यपजी वनमें चले गये || १२३ || सौतिरुवाच कालेन महता कढद्रूरण्डानां दशतीर्दश,जनयामास विष्रेन्द्र दे चाण्डे विनता तदा । उग्रश्रवाजीने कहा--ब्रह्मन! तदनन्तर दीर्घकालके पश्चात् कद्गूने एक हजार और विनताने दो अण्डे दिये
te bhārye varasantuṣṭe kaśyapo vanam āviśat | samāna-tejasvī eka-sahasra-putra-bhavane kā varaṃ prāpya kadrū api ātmanaḥ manorathaṃ siddhaṃ manyamānā babhūva | varadānaṃ prāpya santuṣṭaḥ sa mahātapāḥ kaśyapaḥ tāḥ dharmapatnīḥ prati evam uktvā—“yuvāṃ yathāvat yatnapūrvakaṃ sva-sva-garbhasya rakṣāṃ kurutam”—vanam jagāma || sūtir uvāca | kālena mahatā kadrūr aṇḍānāṃ daśatīr daśa janayāmāsa, vinatā ca tadā dve aṇḍe |
Disse Śaunaka: Quando ambas as esposas ficaram satisfeitas com as dádivas recebidas, Kaśyapa entrou na floresta. Kadrū, tendo obtido a bênção de mil filhos de esplendor igual, julgou realizado o seu desejo. O grande asceta Kaśyapa, satisfeito após conceder tais dons, instruiu suas duas esposas legítimas: «Com diligência, cada uma proteja a própria gestação», e então partiu para o ermo. Disse Sauti: Depois de muito tempo, Kadrū pôs mil ovos, e Vinatā pôs então dois ovos.
शौनक उवाच
Even when a boon is granted, its fruition depends on dharmic care and disciplined protection. Kaśyapa’s instruction to safeguard the pregnancy underscores responsibility and vigilance as ethical duties that accompany divine or ascetic gifts.
After granting boons to his wives Kadrū and Vinatā, the sage Kaśyapa leaves for the forest, instructing them to protect their pregnancies. Much later, Kadrū lays many eggs (ten tens), while Vinatā lays two, setting up the later lineage narratives connected with serpents and Garuḍa.
