FAQs

This verse imparts Sahitya-shastra (lexicographical) knowledge: standardized Sanskrit synonyms and epithets used for precise expression in poetry, prose, and learned discourse.

By cataloging synonyms for key qualities (greed, humility, boldness, departure, restraint, brilliance), it functions like a compact thesaurus (nighantu), showing the Purana’s coverage of language-science alongside ritual, law, and other disciplines.

Though primarily linguistic, it supports dharmic speech (satya and śiṣṭācāra): choosing accurate words helps cultivate discernment, avoid harsh or misleading speech, and uphold refined conduct aligned with virtue.
