Lord Agni (narrating puranic genealogy to the sage Vasiṣṭha)

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Samanya","secondary_vidya":"Avatara-Katha","practical_application":"Genealogical mapping of devas and divine principles (creation-order, prosperity) for Purana-based study, vrata-katha narration, and temple discourse.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Bhṛgu–Khyāti progeny: Dhātṛ, Vidhātṛ, and Śrī","lookup_keywords":["Bhṛgu","Khyāti","Dhātṛ","Vidhātṛ","Śrī (Lakṣmī)"],"quick_summary":"Identifies Khyāti (of Bhṛgu’s line) as mother of Dhātṛ and Vidhātṛ, and of Śrī (Lakṣmī), linking prosperity to Indra’s praise and Viṣṇu’s consorthood."}

Concept: Śrī (prosperity) is sustained through stuti (praise) and alignment with Viṣṇu’s order; cosmic functions (Dhātṛ/Vidhātṛ) arise from ṛṣi-lineage.

Application: Use in maṅgala-stuti and household/royal prosperity rites: invoke Śrī with praise and dhārmic conduct as the ‘support’ of abundance.

Khanda Section: Puranic Genealogies (Deva-Vamsha / Devatā-utpatti)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A genealogical tableau: Bhṛgu and Khyāti seated as ṛṣi-couple; from Khyāti emerge Dhātṛ and Vidhātṛ as cosmic functionaries; Śrī/Lakṣmī appears radiant, with Indra offering praise, and Viṣṇu indicated as her lord.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala temple mural style, Bhṛgu and Khyāti in serene āśrama setting, Dhātṛ and Vidhātṛ as luminous deva-figures, Lakṣmī with lotus aura, Indra with vajra in reverent stuti posture, flat warm palette, ornate borders","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, central Lakṣmī with lotus and halo, gold foil work, Viṣṇu presence suggested beside/behind, Indra kneeling in praise, Bhṛgu-Khyāti smaller at base as progenitors, rich reds and greens, heavy jewelry","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clean linework showing genealogical emergence motif, labeled figures (Bhṛgu, Khyāti, Dhātṛ, Vidhātṛ, Śrī, Śakra), soft shading, instructional composition with balanced spacing","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, courtly scene of Indra praising Lakṣmī, Bhṛgu and Khyāti as sages in a garden pavilion, delicate textiles, fine facial detailing, subdued gold accents"}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}

‘ubhau’ is supplied to match dual sense ‘devau’ with two names.

FAQs

This verse primarily conveys purāṇic genealogical knowledge (vaṃśa/utpatti)—identifying Dhātṛ and Vidhātṛ as born from Khyāti of Bhṛgu’s line, and Śrī (Lakṣmī) as Viṣṇu’s consort who is invoked for vṛddhi (prosperity).

By cataloging divine origins and relationships, it functions like a reference index of cosmology and theology—one of the Agni Purāṇa’s hallmark encyclopedic layers alongside ritual, polity, and other disciplines.

Linking Śrī with praise by Indra “for vṛddhi” underscores a devotional principle: honoring Śrī/Lakṣmī aligns one’s life with auspiciousness and increase (prosperity, success, well-being), a common purāṇic motif of merit through stuti (praise).
