ईश्वर उवाच । ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि यत्र जांबवती नदी । पुरा जांबवतीनाम विष्णोर्या महिषीप्रिया । अपृच्छदर्जुनं साध्वी वद वार्तां कुरू द्वह
īśvara uvāca | tato gacchenmahādevi yatra jāṃbavatī nadī | purā jāṃbavatīnāma viṣṇoryā mahiṣīpriyā | apṛcchadarjunaṃ sādhvī vada vārtāṃ kurū dvaha
ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ: “ਫਿਰ, ਹੇ ਮਹਾਦੇਵੀ, ਉਥੇ ਜਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜਾਂਬਵਤੀ ਨਦੀ ਵਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਸਮੇਂ ‘ਜਾਂਬਵਤੀ’ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਤੀ—ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਮਹਿਸ਼ੀ—ਨੇ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ: ‘ਸੱਚੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦੱਸ; ਬਿਨਾ ਲੁਕਾਏ ਸਾਰਾ ਵਰਤਾਂਤ ਕਹਿ।’”
