caitraśuklatrayodaśyāmahorātraṃ sureśvari | śivakuṃḍaṃ tathāstvetanmayā yasmātsamāvṛtam
Śiva (implied, addressing a goddess as sureśvarī)
Tirtha: Śiva-kuṇḍa
Type: kund
Scene: A divine proclamation fixes the sacred calendar: on Caitra bright trayodaśī, day and night, the pond is to be known as Śiva-kuṇḍa, marked by the goddess’s covering/protecting act.
Sacred time (tithi) and sacred place (kuṇḍa) become mutually sanctifying through divine decree in Purāṇic dharma.
Śiva-kuṇḍa, later further named and praised in the subsequent verses.
The verse highlights the auspicious timing—Caitra bright Trayodaśī (day and night)—as a key sacred window connected to the kuṇḍa.
