इति ते कथिता संख्या अर्थं चैषां श्रृणु द्विज । अस्मिन्नर्थे चेति हासं तव वक्ष्यामि यः पुरा
iti te kathitā saṃkhyā arthaṃ caiṣāṃ śrṛṇu dvija | asminnarthe ceti hāsaṃ tava vakṣyāmi yaḥ purā
ਇਉਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ; ਹੁਣ, ਹੇ ਦ੍ਵਿਜ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਸੁਣ। ਇਸੇ ਭਾਵ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ, ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ, ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਹਾਸ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਬਣੀ ਸੀ।
