दुर्गो नाम मदादैत्यो रुरु दैत्यांगजोभवत् । यश्च तप्त्वा तपस्तीव्रं पुंभ्योजेयत्वमाप्तवान्
durgo nāma madādaityo ruru daityāṃgajobhavat | yaśca taptvā tapastīvraṃ puṃbhyojeyatvamāptavān
ਰੁਰੂ ਦੈਤ੍ਯ ਦੇ ਵੰਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ‘ਦੁਰਗ’ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਦੈਤ੍ਯ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਘੋਰ ਤਪ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਹ ਵਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਹ ਅਜੇਯ ਰਹੇ।
