Mārkaṇḍeya
Tirtha: Śukla-tīrtha
Type: ghat
Listener: Yudhiṣṭhira and entourage
Scene: A sacred riverbank tīrtha radiating white-gold brilliance; sages and pilgrims behold it as other tīrthas are poetically ‘outshone’ in the background.
Darśana of a supremely sanctified place can outweigh numerous other pilgrimages—quality of sanctity surpasses quantity of travel.
Śukla-tīrtha on the Narmadā, praised as incomparable among earthly tīrthas.
The emphasis is on śubha-darśana (auspicious visitation/seeing) of the tīrtha; further rites are likely detailed later.
