कैलासमार्गे शङ्करस्य परीक्षा — Śiva Tests the Approachers on the Kailāsa Path
tuṣṭo bhava mahādeva pāhīdra śaraṇāgatam | agnireva śamaṃ yātu bhālanetrasamudbhavaḥ
A deity/participant in the battle narrative (addressing Lord Shiva on behalf of Indra)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Type: stotra
The verse highlights śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) as a direct path to grace: even a powerful deity like Indra is protected when he surrenders to Mahādeva, showing Śiva as the supreme Pati who subdues destructive forces and restores peace.
It points to Saguna Śiva as the compassionate protector who actively intervenes in the world—granting refuge and calming calamities—mirroring how devotees approach the Śiva-liṅga as the accessible form of the Supreme for protection, purification, and blessing.
A practical takeaway is śaraṇāgati with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) while visualizing Śiva’s grace pacifying inner ‘fire’ (anger, fear, agitation); offering bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) can be taken as a reminder of Śiva’s power to reduce all turmoil to peace.
