Consolation of the Devas and the Ordinance of Consequences in the Dakṣa-Yajña Episode
mama putropari kṛto devānugraha īśvara | svāpamānamagaṇayan dakṣayajñaṃ samuddhara
Brahma
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Dakṣa-yajña episode functions as a paradigmatic ‘sthala’ of Śiva’s wrath and subsequent restoration: the sacrifice is first shattered (adharma checked) and then lifted up by Śiva’s grace, establishing Śiva as yajña-pati beyond ritual formalism.
Significance: Teaches that ritual (yajña) is perfected only when aligned with devotion and humility toward Śiva; restoration symbolizes anugraha after aparādha.
Type: stotra
Offering: naivedya
It highlights Shiva as Pati (the supreme Lord) whose compassion can restore cosmic order even after grave offense; true welfare arises when ego is set aside and one seeks Shiva’s grace.
The verse portrays Saguna Shiva—personally addressed as Īśvara—who responds to sincere supplication; it supports devotional worship where the Lord’s mercy, not ritual pride, perfects sacrifice.
The takeaway is humility and propitiation of Shiva through mantra-japa (especially the Panchakshara ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’) and simple Shaiva observances like bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and steady remembrance rather than mere ritual display.
