The Episode of Anaraṇya’s Daughter and Sage Pippalāda
svayaṃ pradātā sarvebhyaḥ sukhaduḥkhavarānkṣamaḥ | sampadaṃ vipadaṃ yo hi namastasmai śivāya hi

It teaches that Śiva’s lordship includes administering both pleasant and painful results; in Shaiva Siddhanta this is understood as His governance of karma and His grace guiding the soul toward maturity and liberation.
In Linga/Saguna worship, the devotee surrenders outcomes to Śiva, recognizing Him as the ultimate dispenser of life’s gains and losses; the verse supports steadfast bhakti regardless of changing circumstances.
Practice Panchākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with equanimity, offering both success and hardship to Śiva; optionally reinforce this attitude with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and daily Śiva-pūjā.
