Visvamitra and Vasistha: Contest of Divine Weapons
वारुणं चैव रौद्रं च ऐन्द्रं पाशुपतं तथा।ऐषीकं चापि चिक्षेप कुपितो गाधिनन्दन:।।।।
vāruṇaṃ caiva raudraṃ ca aindraṃ pāśupataṃ tathā |
aiṣīkaṃ cāpi cikṣepa kupito gādhinandanaḥ ||
ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਗਾਧੀਨੰਦਨ ਨੇ ਵਾਰੁਣ, ਰੌਦ੍ਰ, ਐਂਦ੍ਰ, ਪਾਸ਼ੁਪਤ ਅਤੇ ਐਸ਼ੀਕ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਵੀ ਸੁੱਟੇ।
Shame! Where is the might of a kshatriya? The energy of a brahmin is the real energy. The staff of Brahma has singly destroyed all my weapons".
Anger multiplies harm and clouds judgement; Dharma warns that krodha drives one to excess and escalation.
After one weapon is neutralized, Viśvāmitra escalates by deploying multiple divine weapons.
By contrast (implicitly), the needed virtue is self-control; Viśvāmitra’s lack of restraint is highlighted.
